ANDREA FAITHFUL

Gaydar Interview

Hot on the heels of releasing her new single ‘Booby Trap’, we caught up with sexy, feisty and gorgeous Andrea Faithful to chat about gay clubbing, 10 inch stilettos, pink hair extensions and making a fucking good pop song.

So what’s been happening since we spoke to you last year?
God, is it that long?! I have been working on my album Right in the Middle and also my label Chubby Kids Records, which I co own with Magna Kartah. We have signed some writers and producers who have had hits in Japan and Europe and I have also been working on a clothing range which has been picked up by a franchise in Bucharest.

Tell us a bit about the new single ‘Booby Trap’ – what can we expect?
It’s electro pop with elements of rock and hip hop. All in all, it’s a fucking good pop song. We have also got some great remixes by Silvertongue and Drew Blake which are going down really well in the clubs right now.

What are you most proud of about the track?
I love the way it combines genres and it mixes styles. I don’t want to box myself but it is a commercial track and I’m really proud of that.

We love the video! What was that like to film?
Great! It was a lot of repeat work, though - mainly because there’re five versions of me on screen at the same time - and I did manage to puke up all down one of the outfit as I was spinning round on a rope for ages, which was very lady like!

So when did you first realise you had musical talent?
I used to dance and sing from being little. I’m from quite a musical background – my mum is a pianist and my dad was in a band. I remember when we went on holiday when I was about 10 and I’d lay on the beach just where the waves broke in a bikini and roll about pretending I was making a music video! Little tart! [Laughs].

Do you remember the first record you ever bought? What was it?
Warren G – ‘Regulate’. I think I had my first kiss to that, too! I remember the guy going in for a bit of breast cuppage, but I was having none of it

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
There are 10 ways to crack an egg.

“I’d say 9 guys and 1 girl, but I don’t believe you should ever rule anything out!”

Michael Stipe has described his sexuality by explaining that, for every 10 people he is attracted to, 7 are guys and 3 are girls. How about you?!
I’d say 9 guys and 1 girl, but I don’t believe you should ever rule anything out!

Do you hit the gay clubs much on a night out?
Yeah, I like Vogue Fabric and Dalston Superstore – sometimes. I also went to watch London’s Next Top Tranny last week which was amazing. I really wanted to see the final but I’m playing a gig that night so I can’t.

If we were to buy you a drink at the bar, what would you ask for?
Mount Gay rum and diet coke if I’m feeling flash. If my card gets declined, just a coke!

“It’s electro pop with elements of rock and hip hop. All in all, it’s a fucking good pop song.”

What turns you on?
10 inch stilettos and 30 inch light pink hair extensions.

And off?
The words ‘edgy’, ‘trendy’, ‘best’, ‘kind regards’ and ‘avant garde’!

Two words:
Linda LaHuges.

What are your plans for the single and beyond?
Magna Kartah and I are looking to sign a new artist to Chubby Kids. We’re looking for a Jay-Z meets Adam Ant! For me, I have the album Right in the Middle coming out around Feb and the single ‘Right in the Middle’. I will also be doing some live shows across the UK and some DJing with Magna Kartah.

Anything to add?
‘Booby Trap’ is out now on all major download platforms! Thanks for your support GaydarNation!
